Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to the United States for re-establishing Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services, a crucial move for Ukraine’s defense logistics against Russian aggression. In a video address, Zelensky emphasized the importance of these services in maintaining frontline communications and countering Russian drone attacks.
Despite this positive development, Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s urgent need for air defense missiles, particularly Patriot system ammunition, which he noted are critical for protecting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure from ongoing Russian missile threats. He called on the United States and European allies to fulfill their previous commitments to supply these military resources.
Additionally, Zelensky highlighted efforts to initiate a humanitarian operation in the town of Oleshky, located in a Russian-controlled area of Ukraine’s Kherson region. This operation, facilitated by U.S. mediation, aims to establish a local ceasefire to allow the delivery of food and medical supplies to civilians while providing a safe passage for those wishing to evacuate the conflict zone.
The proposed humanitarian mission involves the creation of a safe corridor through mine-clearing efforts, which remains a significant challenge due to the heavily mined roads in the region. Zelensky conveyed Ukraine’s readiness to cooperate in these efforts and expressed hope that U.S. involvement would help make the mission a reality.
