Russia Open to Renewed Ukraine Peace Talks, Timeline for Resolution Unclear

The conflict in Ukraine may be moving toward a resolution, but the timeline remains uncertain, according to a Kremlin aide. Yuri Ushakov, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressed this view following a meeting in St. Petersburg between Putin and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

Ushakov indicated that the discussions between Putin and Witkoff centered on the ongoing conflict and the potential for renewed peace negotiations. He mentioned that Putin expressed Russia’s openness to resuming trilateral talks with Ukraine, which could take place around November 10. These talks would aim to establish a post-war security framework for both nations.

Earlier this year, Russia and Ukraine engaged in several rounds of U.S.-mediated peace negotiations, with sessions held in locations such as Abu Dhabi and Geneva. Despite these efforts, a lasting settlement has yet to be achieved.

Ushakov’s remarks suggest that Moscow remains interested in diplomatic engagement to resolve the conflict. However, a definitive timeline for ending the war has not been established, leaving the situation in a state of uncertainty.
