India Seeks Active Mediation Role in Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks

India is actively seeking a more substantial role in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to statements by External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. As New Delhi deepens its engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv, Jaishankar emphasized India’s belief in resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

Rather than just advocating for negotiations, India has taken concrete steps by holding discussions with both Russia and Ukraine. The country is also exploring involvement in initiatives to ensure the safety of shipping in the Black Sea, facilitate grain and energy exports, and establish arrangements to prevent further attacks, as stated by Jaishankar.

Jaishankar has engaged in direct talks with Ukrainian representatives, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders recently met in New Delhi in September, highlighting India’s balanced approach to both parties involved in the conflict.

These developments come amidst ongoing efforts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, with Kyiv also considering the possibility of another round of talks. India’s involvement aims to contribute positively to these diplomatic efforts, seeking a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war.
