China and EU Reach Understanding on Pricing Framework for Electric Vehicle Exports

China and the European Union have made progress toward resolving their dispute over electric vehicle trade after agreeing on guidance related to price undertakings for Chinese battery electric vehicles exported to the EU, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).
MOFCOM said the understanding follows multiple rounds of consultations aimed at addressing the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles. Both sides agreed that providing general guidance on price undertakings would allow Chinese exporters to respond to EU concerns in a more practical and targeted manner, while remaining consistent with World Trade Organization rules.
As part of the agreement, the EU will issue a guidance document on the submission of price undertaking offers. MOFCOM noted that the EU has acknowledged it will assess each offer objectively and fairly, applying the same legal criteria to all exporters and following the principle of non-discrimination in line with WTO regulations.
MOFCOM said the progress reflects the spirit of dialogue and consultation between China and the EU and demonstrates their ability to resolve differences within a rules-based framework. The move is expected to help maintain stability in the automotive industrial and supply chains in China, the EU and globally, while supporting the healthy development of China-EU economic and trade relations.
